Digital Transformation Affects All of Us

2 min read

Digital transformation not only affects technology and the economy – it is shaping society as a whole. As an IT industry, we are responsible for making this change understandable, secure and accessible to everyone.

Digital transformation is not only a technological and economic challenge, but above all a social one. Like any major change, it creates both enthusiasm and uncertainty. But one thing is for sure: it will happen – whether we like it or not. That is why we must not leave anyone behind.

Digital Transformation Affects All of Us

The challenges we are facing as a society

The first challenge is the digital divide. Without access to digital technologies and sufficient digital skills, many people are at risk of exclusion. The elderly in particular may lose touch. Our task as IT industry is to promote digital skills across the board. Digital education must be established in schools, strengthened in further education programs and made accessible to all age groups. Initiatives that specifically support disadvantaged groups and make it easier to use digital devices are essential.

Security for private individuals, too

The second challenge concerns security, data protection, and privacy. While companies invest considerable sums of money to protect their systems in accordance with NIST standards, private individuals are usually under-protected. Their personal data is collected and processed extensively, usually without transparency and clear protection. This is where we need to act. Digital education and comprehensible security solutions are the key. Tech companies offer tools to protect digital identity, but these are often complex and disabled by default. We need intuitive solutions that effectively combine usability and security.

Actively managing change

The third major challenge is the radical change in the world of work. Automation and AI are modifying job profiles. Traditional jobs are disappearing, new ones are being created. This leads to insecurity and fear of job loss. Society and politics are called upon to manage change in a socially responsible way. Support programs, as well as targeted training and further education, are essential to prepare employees for new digital requirements. At the same time, it is important that each and every individual shows a proactive interest in lifelong learning in order to ensure their employability in the long run.

Solutions for everyone – inclusive and safe to use

Our responsibility as an IT service provider is clear: we must develop systems and applications that are simple, understandable and secure for everyone to use. Usability and accessibility must not be secondary issues, but become a key component of every solution. Complexity must no longer be a security argument. This is the only way we can ensure that digital transformation brings enthusiasm and progress instead of fueling fear and uncertainty.
Together, we can overcome this social challenge. Let's make the most of digitalization. It is an opportunity for everyone!
